The mayor, Mamen Sánchez, along with the Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning, José Antonio Díaz, visited the neighborhood of Torresblancas to oversee the ongoing works for arranging and providing new parking and facilities for neighborhood use on municipal land. These works, recently awarded to the company Manuel Alba SA for an amount of 200,000 euros, were also witnessed by the president of the neighborhood association, Fernando Cabral, other representatives, a member of Asunico, Domingo Pérez, and Urban Planning technicians who drafted the project.
As highlighted by the mayor, the intervention in Torresblancas represents “another of the works we are carrying out in the city as part of our goal to utilize unused municipal land for the benefit of residents. Thus, we are talking about investments and more investments, each translating into workload for a company and workers participating in that project.”
During her visit, the mayor discussed with residents the details of these works, which have been previously agreed upon with the neighborhood “to include all the demands they were making, mainly, the creation of parking spaces, construction of a multifunctional track as a complement to the existing one in the neighborhood, and a calisthenics play area.”
These elements will be located on a plot that is being conditioned as a sports and leisure area, “continuing with our dynamic of recovering degraded spaces throughout Jerez that are underutilized, to put them at the service of citizens, serving as family and neighborhood meeting places near their homes,” the mayor pointed out.
In addition to improving the quality of life, this project will benefit local commerce by providing more parking and facilities, bringing more life to the neighborhood. “Thus, we continue to make neighborhoods healthier and more livable, with nearby and accessible living spaces that prevent residents from having to travel outside their environment and with enough space to park,” summarized Mamen Sánchez.
Meanwhile, the residents of Torresblancas have thanked the government for these improvements “which are now a reality,” said Fernando Cabral, emphasizing the need for these facilities to make life in the neighborhood easier and allow residents to park more comfortably.
Characteristics of the works
The new facilities will be located on a dirt plot at the confluences of Atlanta, Budapest, and Varsovia streets, covering an area of 3,257 square meters. Specifically, the works consist of arranging and developing this plot, where a delimited parking area will be set up with a capacity for about 40 vehicles. The multifunctional track will have a smaller surface area than the existing one on the plot and will therefore complement it.
Also, a 260-square-meter calisthenics area is planned, equipped with typical elements for such installations. Completing the intervention, the planting of new tree species and urban furniture is foreseen.
Sidewalk works on Varsovia Street and in the children’s park
The mayor also referred to other actions being carried out in Torresblancas, such as the repair works on the sidewalks of Varsovia Street, worth 40,000 euros, which also includes the installation of a new continuous rubber floor in the children’s park to replace the current gravel filling.
The works, executed by the company Iter Trivium SLU, aim to reform various areas of the street, such as repairs of the deteriorated sidewalk and specific repairs in adjacent surfaces to this road.
