Ana Mestre, the delegate of the Andalusian Regional Government in Cádiz, visited the start of works to improve the A-2003 as it passes through the Autonomous Local Entity (ELA) of La Barca de la Florida, in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). The Ministry of Development is investing a total of 88,205 euros in this project. Mestre, accompanied by the territorial delegate of Development, Infrastructure, and Territory Planning, Mercedes Colombo, the mayor of La Barca, Alejandro López, and the mayor of Estella del Marqués, Ricardo Sánchez, explained that two works have been awarded for the repair of soft spots and strengthening of the firm on the detour for heavy traffic on the bridge, and for the installation of traffic lights at a dangerous intersection on the A-2003 bypass.
The first action, which will take place around the metal bridge that cannot be crossed by vehicles weighing more than 30 tons, was detailed in a note by the Board. Mestre recalled that “in September 2020, damage to the structure was detected, posing a risk of collapse, which led to the restriction of vehicle passage over the structure to those weighing less than 10 tons, and an emergency work was tendered that reinforced that infrastructure for an amount of 130,000 euros.” She noted that during the construction period, traffic on the existing detour route increased significantly. Once the emergency action was completed in April this year, the damage to the detour due to the traffic load of over 10 tons during the construction period was assessed, leading to the decision to repair it. The repair work is categorized into three types: reconstruction of the firm, rehabilitation of the firm, and reinforcement of the firm.
The first action, located near the existing intersection with the A-2003 on the San José del Valle side, will involve milling the entire existing firm, followed by leveling and compacting the milled material, adding artificial gravel, placing a geogrid, and extending a six-centimeter thick layer of hot bituminous mixture. This phase covers a length of 260 meters. The second area of action involves milling the existing deteriorated running layer at the intersection of the detour with the road leading to the Mesas del Corral neighborhood and replacing the firm. The third action involves extending a running layer in areas with better firm quality outside the previously mentioned areas, located between the aforementioned intersection with the A-2003 (San José del Valle side) and the Guadalete River. This work represents an investment of 46,203 euros (VAT included) with an estimated duration of one month, awarded to Manuel Alba company.
Additionally, the Ministry of Development has also awarded works to install traffic lights at the intersection of several streets with the A-2003. Specifically, this involves the area around kilometer point 18, to improve road safety, and will include the installation of traffic lights at this road with the adjacent streets (Calle José Antonio-CA-4104 road and Calle San Isidro). These works represent an investment of 42,002 euros (VAT included), with an estimated duration of one month, and are awarded to Iter Trivium.
